Magic Bow: An Unique Event - Dance, Music and Story telling

[ April 26 2024, 06:00 PM To 09:00 PM ]

MAGIC BOW: DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Based on the compositions of Vidwan Lalgudi Jayaraman

Concept, Script, Direction, Design

Gowri Ramnarayan

Lalgudi Jayaraman (1930-2013) had a unique attribute: a visual imagination. He painted characters and settings on his mindscreen as he composed his music. His compositions became the auditory forms of the visual scenarios he imagined.  He found greater freedom to do this by opting for ragas never used before for the genres he chose.

That is how his jatiswaram in Raga Rasikapriya depicts a shipwrecked couple exploring an uninhabited island, the varnam in Charukesi follows a woman deluded into playing hide- and-seek with the lover - who has never left her side! The tillana in Pahadi has a God dancing on the mountain, protecting nature and the environment, to nourish body and soul.

My script and directorial design grew out of listening to the master bowman’s music from childhood. My understanding acquired more dimensions when I interviewed him and reviewed his concerts as a critic (The Hindu). Now JustUs Repertory combines dance, music and storytelling to recreate the visual scenarios for the music as imagined by the composer. We also roam with him through the village scenes of his childhood which inspired him in his life and music.

Sheejith Krishna rises to the challenges of the choreography with flair and innovative vision.

Akshaya Pathra Event

[ March 17 2024, 02:45 PM To 08:00 PM ]

I'm Ankita Badrinarayanaraj, a freshman at Westview High School. I proudly serve as the Youth Ambassador for the Portland chapter of Akshaya Patra, where my role involves orchestrating fundraising events to support the mission of Akshaya Patra.

We’re teaming up to make a difference! Sanjay Srikanth and I are joining forces to organize a fundraiser event. We have planned a musical evening with a unique mix, bringing together various talents for a noble cause! This one-of-a-kind program will showcase not only some young talent groups in Portland but also feature an incredible band to enhance the musical experience. The event also boasts an impressive lineup, featuring captivating performances from renowned institutions such as Ramya's School of Music, Kalpana School of Dance, Natyaveda School of Dance and a Pop-Up Show by Krsaangi. It will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 2:45 PM to 6:00 PM, at the Grand Auditorium of Portland Balaji Temple (6100 SW Raab Rd, Portland, OR 97221).

Imagine a world where no child goes to bed hungry, where every young mind can thrive through education, and where hope replaces despair. Akshaya Patra, founded with the belief that children should never go hungry or be deprived of education, is driven by this vision. The objective of Akshaya Patra is straightforward and incredibly profound: to provide wholesome, nutritious meals for children so that they can focus on their education. They understand that a healthy child is physically nourished, mentally, and emotionally. Let us remember that Akshaya Patra's work does not just involve providing food. It's about providing hope, feeding dreams, and letting children reach their full potential. As we stand at the crossroads between compassion and change, let us vow to become changing forces in this world that are so desperately needed. I was drawn to Akshaya Patra because of the cause and the remarkable teamwork dedicated to feeding hungry children in India. Introduced to this organization by my family, I firmly believe in the importance of meeting basic needs, such as providing food and education. Like everyone, I comprehend the significance of sustenance, and I'm grateful for the privilege to contribute to our community through this noble cause.

Please join hands with Akshaya Patra in its mission to eliminate hunger and promote learning. Together, we can make a world where every classroom is filled, and hearts are full of hope. And yes, all our minds have the chance to soar.
